We’re looking for compassionate and motivated Certified Peer Support Worker (CPSW) to support members in their recovery journey. This is a 100% work-from-home opportunity. Candidates MUST have an active New Mexico Certified Peer Support Worker (CPSW) certification and be actively enrolled as a New Mexico Medicaid provider.
Key Responsibilities:
This is a part-time position. The Peer Support Specialist at Affect plays a crucial role in supporting members, by working closely with our clinical team to deliver non-clinical support, and providing individualized guidance, mentoring, and resources to members. A Peer’s lived experience, empathy, and commitment to recovery will help members navigate challenges and build resilience.
Specific duties include:
- Member Support: Offer direct peer support to members in your state, including one-on-one and group sessions, to foster community, build self-esteem, and support long-term recovery.
- Advocacy and Resource Connection: Assist members in accessing community resources, overcoming barriers to treatment, and developing self-sufficiency skills.
- Education and Mentoring: Provide education on wellness management, recovery skills, and overcoming negative self-talk, while serving as a mentor and role model.
- Group Facilitation: Plan, develop, and facilitate peer support groups that empower members and encourage positive behavioral changes.
- Confidentiality and Compliance: Ensure all member interactions are documented & charted within 24 hours and comply with HIPAA, 42 CFR part 2, and other confidentiality regulations.
- Collaborative Engagement: Work in collaboration with Affect’s clinical team to ensure a cohesive approach to member care, sharing insights to enhance treatment effectiveness.
- Crisis Support: Offer encouragement and support during crises, helping members navigate challenging emotions and maintain focus on their recovery goals.
- Professional Development: Participate in ongoing training and development to maintain certification and stay informed about best practices in peer support.
- Billing Utilization: Work to meet billable hour targets as set forth by management for PSS offerings.
Requirements:
- Active New Mexico Certified Peer Support Worker (CPSW)
- Actively enrolled in New Mexico Medicaid as a provider
- High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree a plus.
- 2+ years of experience providing peer support, case management, or advocacy services to individuals with substance use disorder or related conditions, including crisis management interventions.
- Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor during all member interactions.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices in substance use disorder treatment and familiarity with available resources and services.
- Ability to communicate effectively with members, families, and fellow professionals in a clear manner.
- Excellent written, presentation, communication, and analytical skills.
- Attention to detail, ability to juggle multiple priorities, and can work in an environment where change is frequent.
- Committed to a high ethical standard in everything you do.
- You must have a quiet, private, dedicated home office with a door to allow for HIPAA-compliant conversations and a reliable internet connection.
Optional but preferred:
- Enthusiasm about working for a small early-stage company.
- High comfort level with technology, including EMR software, email, Slack, and mobile apps (e.g., Google Suite).
- Experience with training and/or mentoring team members.
