Introduction

AOA Dx exists to transform women’s health. We are leading the next generation of cancer diagnostics, applying lipidomics, proteomics, and machine learning to enable earlier diagnosis of ovarian cancer for women with signs and symptoms - an area where no diagnostic tool exists today.

The Opportunity: Contract Medical Device Software Engineer

AOA Dx is seeking a Contract Software Engineer to support the design and development of a medical device software application focused on processing protein-based lab instrument data and generating diagnostic reports for cancer risk.

This role will play a critical part in building a full-stack application that integrates scientific data processing with a web-based interface and secure data storage. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in software development within regulated environments and enjoys working at the intersection of healthcare, data, and technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with requirements analysts and cross-functional business/scientific teams to design software solutions and estimate development effort based on defined requirements
  • Provide input on software development processes and operate in compliance with approved design control frameworks
  • Design, develop, and implement application components, including front-end interfaces, backend services, and database layers
  • Perform developer testing and produce technical documentation across architecture, design, and code modules
  • Manage code within source control systems and track development tasks using appropriate tools
  • Develop unit and automated tests; partner with QA to support manual testing, verification, and validation activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science or a related field
  • 4+ years of professional experience in software engineering
  • Strong full-stack development experience in Java and/or Python
  • Experience working within medical device software frameworks, including design controls aligned with IEC 62304 and FDA/IVDR guidance
  • Familiarity with systems handling lab, scientific, or patient data

Engagement Details:

  • This is a contract position with an anticipated duration of 6–9 months
  • This role does not include employee benefits
  • This is a 1099 role
