Role Purpose
The Certified Nurse Midwife Practice Lead is a dual role – serving as both an expert professional practitioner providing high quality, individualized patient care – while simultaneously leading their affiliated practice’s midwife team and serving on their practice’s leadership team.
Candidates must consistently demonstrate professional skills and abilities, utilizing their experience and knowledge base, and must consistently provide exemplary leadership to direct and supervise the clinical performance of others. Critically, this leader must exemplify Diana Health’s mission and values and foster a collaborative learning environment in their local practice and within the practice’s partner hospital.
As a CNM, you will:
- Independently manage and provide full-scope midwifery care in our outpatient practice inclusive of comprehensive obstetric and gynecological services
- Collaborate with clinical colleagues (including OB/GYNs; RNs / LPNs; MAs; LCSWs, health coaches, lactation counselors, childbirth educators and other specialists, and others) as part of our collaborative care model
- Triage and care for emergent obstetric patients on L&D, working collaboratively with RNs and OB/GYNs
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives
- Attend skills training and drills for high acuity/low frequency events
- Serve as preceptor for CNM students and coordinate scheduling for students
As the CNM Practice Lead, you will:
- Lead your practice’s CNM team:
- Support new hire orientation and ongoing training of your practice’s CNM team and broader clinical team to ensure they are to Diana Health’s standard of care
- Ensure your affiliated practice’s team of CNMs perform within their scope of practice and duties and ensure accountability for the team at all levels
- Provide clinical expertise and leadership on Labor & Delivery
- Supervise, coach, mentor, and assume responsibility for promoting the growth and development of the practice’s CNM team as a collective and individual CNMs, as well as the broader clinical team, which includes being available after hours as a resource for troubleshooting obstacles as they arise, as well as providing empathic listening and clinical support as needed.
- Collaborate with department heads to interview, evaluate, and hire qualified CNMs who are aligned with Diana Health’s organizational goals and patient care standards.
- Assist CNMs in precepting role
- Serve on your practice’s leadership team, in partnership with the Medical Director and the Practice Manager in these key areas
HR/Management
- Exemplify Diana Health’s culture of caring for others and fostering continuous learning and improvement – and ensure this culture thrives within the practice; nurture interprofessional relations
- Provide feedback on CNM team and broader practice clinical team to the practice Medical Director for annual clinical performance reviews
- Support practice level retention efforts
- Partner with other CNM Leads to drive systematic communication, foster culture, and oversee process improvements as well as quality initiatives
Operations
- Partner with the Practice Manager on the creation and management of the practice + call CNM schedule; troubleshoot staffing challenges as they arise
- Review practice’s operational dashboard to assess performance and identify improvement opportunities from the numbers; share with Diana Health leaders
- Identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement and/or training gaps through your direct experience in the day-to-day practice operations and L&D operations; share with Diana Health leaders
- Support the ongoing refinement of our clinical dashboard
- Participate in loss recovery initiatives and clinical case reviews
- Identify and support quality improvement initiatives at your practice’s affiliated hospital by attending monthly quality meetings
- Partner with the practice’s Medical Director and the Regional Clinical Director on supporting CQI projects
- Community Building and Outreach; Marketing by supporting practice’s marketing initiatives
- Attend select community events
- Attend select meetings with local referring providers and community partners
