About the Role:
Business Insider is seeking a Deputy Editor for BI Live, our new live journalism and events division. We produce impactful, editorially driven, and immersive events that convene leaders and spark meaningful conversations. This person will play a foundational role in scaling our editorial work into live journalism.

This strategic role is integral to shaping and executing high-impact events, interviews and content formats that elevate our editorial voice and drive thought leadership on the global stage.

Reporting to the Editorial Director of BI Live, you’ll work closely with colleagues in the newsroom and also across departments such as marketing, production and sales to create exceptional live experiences. This role is based in our New York City HQ, with a minimum of 3 in-office days per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curate, recruit, and manage high-profile newsmakers for BI Live events.
  • Working across the newsroom, develop formats and session ideas that reflect BI’s editorial pillars: technology, the workplace, health, side hustles, wealth and kitchen table economics.
  • Be the full owner of scripts, run-of-shows, and briefing docs for moderators and executive speakers, collaborating closely with our journalists on building the best newsmaking conversations
  • Support on-site logistics including speaker prep, call sheets, and legal team coordination
  • Work with the editorial director and a cross-functional team in the newsroom on the creation of a talent lab where you will identify, train, and support in-house journalists to lead live events in various formats, including moderating panels, hosting videos, and participating in smaller subscriber events designed for audience engagement.
  • Ensure editorial integrity and brand alignment across all programming.
  • Monitor industry trends and competitor events to inform future strategy. Attend key events with the goal to cultivate sources to participate in events.
  • Travel and support events, as needed.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in live content development or journalism, with a strong track record in booking exclusive interviews.
  • A robust network of sources and contacts across business, tech, entertainment, sports, health and media.
  • Superb writing, communication, and project management skills. Enthusiasm for rolling up your sleeves and believing that “no task is too small” when building a business
  • Track record of executing high-level programming and working cross-functionally.
  • Experience coordinating with executive leadership, sponsors, and key external talent.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Base salary: $128,000 - $148,000 (dependent on relevant expertise, and industry network).
