We’re hiring an experienced archivist and media manager to design, improve, and run a scalable end-to-end video rights, clearances, and licensing program across our owned-and-operated and third-party distribution. You will ensure legal compliance and efficient delivery to web, app, FAST, and CTV while maintaining the full licensing lifecycle—contract intake, rights windows, restrictions, renewals, expirations, and audit trails—in partnership with Legal and Editorial.

You will also establish additional video distribution and MAM workflows that expand our reach and raise our standards. This includes architecting ingest, metadata, QC, versioning, transcoding, and delivery pipelines; configuring and integrating our stack (Iconik for MAM, JW Player for OVP, plus CMS and NLEs); documenting playbooks and SLAs; training newsroom partners; and monitoring performance to drive continuous improvement. You’ll build these systems alongside an award-winning team of creative, ambitious video journalists.

What you’ll do

  • Asset intake and organization: establish ingest workflows and enforce file naming, directory, and versioning conventions

  • Metadata and taxonomy: define and maintain metadata schemas, controlled vocabularies, and tagging QA; drive consistent usage across teams

  • Search and retrieval: operate the DAM/MAM with emphasis on Iconik; also work with Bynder, Canto, CatDV, and tools like Frame.io; manage request SLAs and build saved searches and collections

  • Video platform operations: manage video data within JW Player as the online video platform for publishing, playlists, captions, thumbnails, and performance reporting; collaborate with audience and revenue teams

  • Rights and compliance: track licenses, usage windows, embargoes, and model or property releases; coordinate fair use reviews and takedowns with Legal

  • Training and documentation: create quick start guides, run newsroom trainings, and maintain playbooks for breaking news ingestion and after-hours coverage

What you’ll bring

  • 5+ years in media asset management, newsroom archiving, library science, or a similar content operations role
  • Hands-on experience with Iconik or comparable MAMs (CatDV, Dalet, Bynder, Canto) and with JW Player or other OVPs
  • Strong grasp of IPTC and XMP standards, editorial best practices, copyright and licensing, and privacy considerations
  • Comfort with common file formats (RAW, ProRes, DNx, JPEG, PNG, WAV, MP3), transcoding basics, and checksum or fixity concepts
Proven ability to create taxonomies and controlled vocabularies with excellent attention to detail and change management skills
  • Nice to have: basic scripting in Python or Bash, SQL or APIs, AWS or GCP storage tiers, FFmpeg, and modern tagging or vision tools

How success will be measured

  • Average retrieval time of X hours or less for archive requests; at least Y% of new assets fully tagged within 24 hours.
  • Fewer duplicate assets and lower storage costs; no rights or embargo violations.
  • Adoption of standards across desks and strong satisfaction scores from editorial partners.

This role is based in New York and will require coming into our NYC office three times a week.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Base salary: $80,000-$85,000 (dependent on relevant expertise).
  • Unlimited PTO, 10 paid holidays, and 16 weeks of parental leave.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans.
  • Matched and vested 401k plan.
  • Access to resources for financial planning guidance, family planning services, mental health reach-out, and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP).
  • Additional benefits include commuter benefits, phone reimbursement, gym membership discounts, and more.
