Business Insider is hiring a reporting fellow to join our business team from winter 2026.

The UK-based fellow will join a team that covers the most compelling and impactful business stories of the day across a variety of beats, including workplace and careers, side hustles, kitchen table economics, and retail and consumer habits.

Our mission is to inform and inspire the digital generation and become the most influential and loved journalism company. At Business Insider, we aim to cover the people, companies, and ideas changing our world. Our team members embody and uphold Business Insider’s three core values: we are all one team, we are effective, and we strive to get better every day.

The Business Insider Fellowship Program is for early career journalists who want to spend six months learning from a newsroom full of passionate, dedicated journalists. Fellows are assigned to teams and become experts in digital storytelling. They produce real work that is distributed to our audience of millions, and by the end of six months, they are prepared for the next phase of their journalism careers. This role requires you to work for 40 hours a week. Fellowships can be hybrid, and we expect London-based fellows to come into our offices at least twice per week.

The Role & Team:

Fellows can expect to write about business personalities, the breaking business story of the day, and company earnings. They can expect to go out into the world to attend networking events and source meetings. They will often be asked to make quick pivots and work under tight deadlines. They will spend their time doing meaningful work: researching, writing, pitching, and interviewing.

The fellow can expect to write 1-2 breaking news stories every day in 300-500 words, and to work on originally reported enterprise stories. Some of their work will be visual in nature: We want you to take your camera into the world, document what you see, and write stories in slideshow formats.

Reporters may also pitch travel assignments, though travel is not required as a condition of employment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pitch daily story ideas and work with your editor to cover the most compelling news from the world’s biggest companies
  • Conduct interviews and pitch feature stories, explainers, visual features, and other story formats, as required
  • Produce stories that are accurate, properly researched, error-free, and in line with Business Insider reporting standards
  • Hone SEO best practices and become adept at Business Insider’s style of headline writing

The ideal candidate has:

  • Experience with business reporting
  • A keen eye for impactful and potentially market-moving corporate news
  • A broad knowledge base spanning multiple industries and company types
  • A fundamental understanding of how corporations conduct business and grow
  • A nose for identifying any developments that seem unusual and out of the ordinary
  • A background in journalism, writing, and reporting online

Additionally, all of our editorial fellows should have:

  • A passion for digital storytelling, voracious reading habits, and familiarity with digital and social media
  • Experience reporting and writing (university publications are great!)
  • Ability to work quickly and collaboratively with a fast-paced team
  • Solid proofreading/copy editing skills

Salary & Benefits:

  • Fellows are paid an annual salary of £26,000
  • Fellows get 10 days annual leave during the 6-month period
  • This position starts in January 2026 and requires that you work full time for six months.

Business Insider is a flexible workplace when it comes to remote work, but an important part of the fellowship is being a part of the newsroom in person for learning opportunities. Fellows are encouraged to come into our office in London at least two days a week.
