The worldwide data management software market is massive (IDC forecasts it to be $136 billion by 2027!). At MongoDB we are transforming industries and empowering developers to build amazing apps that people use every day. We are the leading developer data platform and the first database provider to IPO in over 20 years. Join our team and be at the forefront of innovation and creativity.

The web team at MongoDB builds global web experiences that help MongoDB connect with developers and technical leaders around the world. We make reusable systems and components that help us scale our impact – design systems, localization pipelines, form processors, authoring tools, experimentation systems. We also build novel experiences that demonstrate our products, showcase our brand, and grow our business.

We’re looking for a senior web engineer to help transform the platform and experiences for our flagship website, www.mongodb.com, work with a team of web engineers building a new design system, integrating a new CMS, producing immersive and compelling web experiences, and delivering a wide variety of capabilities to internal content producers.

This role will be based remotely in North or South America.

Position Expectations

  • Balance priorities between technical mentorship and system architecture (roughly 30%), and hands-on work (roughly 70%) on multiple websites & systems
  • Work with product and design teams to turn functional specifications into technical specifications
  • Collaborate with engineers across the organization to deliver critical capabilities
  • Contribute to a technical roadmap maintained by product and engineering leads
  • Understand product requirements, help design technical solutions, and work with the team to ship a great website
  • Mentor junior engineers and help them grow

Success measures

  • In the first month, you'll meet the team (peers, leaders, and key stakeholders), learn about the projects underway and the major initiatives planned, build out your local development environment, and ask a lot of great questions
  • Within 3 months, you will establish a good working relationship with close peers on the web team, ship some good code, and participate in at least one technical assessment and recommendation for a major initiative
  • Within 6 months, you will establish expertise in some parts of our stack and will regularly unblock other engineers in those areas; you will have proposed a few important improvements to our technology and engineering process
  • Within 12 months, you will help bring several major deliveries from concept to market and will be a leading authority for technologies in our scope

Qualifications

  • Has 7+ years of experience building production-ready web sites or web applications
  • Strong Front End development experience in Javascript, React, Next.js, Node.js, Express and TypeScript
  • Working experience in AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform and MongoDB would be ideal
  • Some exposure to Contentstack or similar headless CMS, Prometheus and Grafana would be good as well
  • Independently and proactively works at every level of the stack to build accessible, compatible, optimized, resilient, scalable global websites, and enjoys collaborating cross-functionally with analysts, designers, product managers, and other stakeholders in the organization
  • Enjoys mentoring more junior engineers and working with leads to establish and maintain a healthy, high-functioning team culture
