The worldwide data management software market is massive (According to IDC, the worldwide database software market, which it refers to as the database management systems software market, was forecasted to be approximately $82 billion in 2023 growing to approximately $137 billion in 2027. This represents a 14% compound annual growth rate). At MongoDB we are transforming industries and empowering developers to build amazing apps that people use every day. We are the leading developer data platform and the first database provider to IPO in over 20 years. Join our team and be at the forefront of innovation and creativity.

The Kubernetes teams develop software that makes using MongoDB in or from Kubernetes so frictionless that we are the de facto choice for a database in cloud-native applications. We are enabling database-as-a-service experiences for MongoDB users on Kubernetes. We are responsible for three Operators, Atlas, Enterprise, and Community (OSS), that allow our users to deploy fault-tolerant, globally distributed MongoDB clusters in minutes, in the cloud or on-premise.

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Hosted Operator team that builds tooling to automate the management of MongoDB resources in Kubernetes for Enterprise Advanced and Community users. As part of the team, you will propose, design, build and support product features. We are looking for passionate, intrinsically motivated software engineers who consistently work to grow their skills and want to take their careers to the next level. No prior experience with MongoDB technologies is required! During interviews, you will meet most of our team and have the opportunity to ask questions about working at MongoDB. We pride ourselves on our team's culture and on being an inclusive and collaborative group that Builds Together.

This role can be based remotely within EMEA.

  • Although this is not a DevOps role, you are an advocate of the DevOps culture who loves automation and diving into system internals
  • Enjoys collaboration and being part of a team. You will extensively collaborate with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders
  • Be flexible! You'll be joining a small team, so you must be willing to take on a wide variety of responsibilities, learning as you go
  • You resonate well with our team’s core engineering values: Context, Predictability, Transparency, Focus and Craftsmanship

  • Propose, design, build and support product features for our Kubernetes Operator
  • Work in an agile team environment with a close relationship with the customer
  • Incrementally ship elements of sophisticated projects
  • Apply our core values to your work
  • Assist our Operations & Support Engineers to troubleshoot operational issues with customers

What is in it for you

  • Generous compensation package (top-range salary, equity, comprehensive benefits)
  • You'll be joining a team that is diverse and highly collaborative, we value shipping fast and clean
  • Opportunities to learn on the job (time to upskill in new technologies)
  • High level of independence in your day to day work (not a strict 9-6 role, focus on results, not the appearance of work)

  • Experience in a modern programming language. We mostly use Golang but we believe great engineers are much more than the tools they use
  • Experience working with Kubernetes and Docker. Great plus for candidates who are familiar with the CNCF landscape and can easily discuss the value and trade-offs of adopting these tools
  • Able to write technical documents and describe complex concepts in a concise way
  • Have worked with one or more of the major public cloud providers
  • Good understanding of computer networking and protocols
