We are looking for an innovative Product Counsel to join MongoDB’s legal team. As a member of our growing Product legal function, you will hold a broad range of responsibilities providing legal guidance on product development and new programs. You will partner with our teams to develop new technologies while managing legal and business risk, and act as a liaison between the product team and other departments to mitigate risks to the company. As we expand our developer data platform, your ideas and contributions will make an immediate impact.

The ideal candidate will have some experience in product counseling, licensing and intellectual property law, but also be eager to learn and master new areas of the law. To succeed in this position, you must be able to work independently and efficiently and enjoy meeting challenges head on. This is a full-time position based in our New York City office following our hybrid working model.

Responsibilities

  • Actively collaborate with a wide variety of MongoDB teams, including Product, Engineering, Partnerships, Compliance and Marketing, on a range of issues related to product development and commercialization
  • Participate as a proactive business partner and build a trusted advisor relationship, providing ideas and insights into how we can work within the law to create amazing product experiences for our customers
  • Collaborate with and advise stakeholders on MongoDB’s approaches to AI use and governance, with respect to our product GenAI features and our internal use of AI technology
  • Draft, review, and maintain foundational documents for our products and services – such as terms of use, product and support policies, and customer disclosures – and build and implement scalable processes related to those items
  • Develop and implement policies and best practices for MongoDB’s marketing programs and initiatives, and partner with marketing team to review marketing collateral for trademark, advertising, and competition issues
  • Remain up-to-date on relevant industry, AI, advertising, IP and privacy laws and regulations to provide an ongoing ability to offer sound compliance advice
  • Spearhead internal education initiatives and trainings related to licensing, AI, patents, trademarks and marketing

Qualifications

  • Smart, creative, and driven, with great leadership and teamwork skills, and a willingness to take on new responsibility
  • 5-7 or more years of legal experience, including at a law firm or prior in-house experience with tech companies, particularly in the SaaS/cloud computing space
  • A broad legal knowledge that enables you to spot and resolve a variety of legal issues across multiple jurisdictions
  • Familiarity with launching products and services and advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the tech space, particularly in the SaaS/cloud computing space or AI technology
  • Knowledge and understanding of software licensing, AI, patent and trademark laws, rules and regulations in the U.S. and globally
  • Strong business judgment and an ability to identify practical, risk-based solutions to issues and make decisions based on imperfect information
  • Fluency translating legal advice into actionable guidance for stakeholders
  • Relationship and people skills that enable you to get a diverse group of stakeholders moving in the same direction
  • Thrive working on a team in a fast-paced environment with priorities that frequently change and occasionally compete
  • Excellent verbal and written communication as well as attention to detail
  • Licensed in an appropriate jurisdiction

MongoDB’s base salary range for this role is posted below. Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB’s total compensation and benefits package. Other benefits for eligible employees may include: equity, participation in the employee stock purchase program, flexible paid time off, 20 weeks fully-paid gender-neutral parental leave, fertility and adoption assistance, 401(k) plan, mental health counseling, access to transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage, and health benefits offerings. Please note, the base salary range listed below and the benefits in this paragraph are only applicable to U.S.-based candidates.

$118,000$231,000 USD
