MongoDB’s mission is to empower innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries by unleashing the power of software and data. We enable organizations of all sizes to easily build, scale, and run modern applications by helping them modernize legacy workloads, embrace innovation, and unleash AI. Our industry-leading developer data platform, MongoDB Atlas, is the only globally distributed, multi-cloud database and is available in more than 115 regions across AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Atlas allows customers to build and run applications anywhere—on premises, or across cloud providers. With offices worldwide and over 175,000 new developers signing up to use MongoDB every month, it’s no wonder that leading organizations, like Samsung and Toyota, trust MongoDB to build next-generation, AI-powered applications.

MongoDB is seeking a visionary and strategic Director of Engineering to lead the establishment and scaling of a new engineering organization in our Gurugram office. This role will focus on building a high-performing team that develops software to run MongoDB on any type of infrastructure at global scale. Our software and services allow users to deploy fault-tolerant, globally distributed MongoDB clusters in minutes. The main focus is to maintain and expand our software to manage MongoDB clusters which are deployed in data centers or private cloud platforms.

You will work mainly on the Ops Manager and Cloud Manager products. Our team's end users are some of the largest businesses in the world, deploying massive clusters and processing huge amounts of data.

You will work at the intersection of cutting-edge cloud technologies, distributed systems, and enterprise-grade solutions, fostering innovation and engineering excellence while delivering high-quality, secure software.

We are looking to speak to candidates who are based in Gurugram for our hybrid working model.

The ideal candidate will have...

  • Expert knowledge of enterprise-grade software solutions, with a deep understanding of the challenges and best practices for managing complex systems in hybrid cloud and on-prem environments
  • 10+ years of experience leading software engineering teams, including experience managing through multiple layers of leadership and building teams in distributed locations
  • A proven track record of defining and executing strategic product vision, mobilizing teams to deliver impactful outcomes, and demonstrating strong ownership and accountability for results
  • Experience building, evolving, and scaling enterprise or B2B software products, particularly in areas like infrastructure management, distributed systems, or database operations, with a focus on performance, security, and reliability
  • Cloud-native expertise, including proficiency with Kubernetes, container orchestration, and modern DevOps practices, to design and deliver scalable and secure solutions
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, including global stakeholders and non-technical decision-makers
  • A commitment to fostering an inclusive and collaborative team environment, nurturing talent, and mentoring future leaders to drive organizational growth and success
  • Proven ability to influence across the organization and partner with cross-functional teams to align engineering efforts with business priorities
  • Experience engaging directly with customers to understand their needs, gather feedback, and translate insights into actionable product improvements
