MongoDB’s mission is to empower innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries by unleashing the power of software and data. We enable organizations of all sizes to easily build, scale, and run modern applications by helping them modernize legacy workloads, embrace innovation, and unleash AI. Our industry-leading developer data platform, MongoDB Atlas, is the only globally distributed, multi-cloud database and is available in more than 115 regions across AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Atlas allows customers to build and run applications anywhere—on premises, or across cloud providers. With offices worldwide and over 175,000 new developers signing up to use MongoDB every month, it’s no wonder that leading organizations, like Samsung and Toyota, trust MongoDB to build next-generation, AI-powered applications.

We’re looking for an experienced Sales Compensation Lead to join the Corporate Accounting team. You’ll design, implement, and manage commission frameworks that inspire our Sales teams and align with MongoDB’s growth strategy. You’ll work closely with Finance and Sales Operations to make sure plans are simple, motivating, and drive the right outcomes - and you’ll own the end-to-end payout process to build trust through accuracy and compliance.

This is a role for a strategic yet hands-on operator who loves blending plan design with execution, thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, and is excited to transform the sales compensation experience with smart processes, technology, and collaboration.

We are looking to speak to candidates who are based in Austin, Palo Alto, or San Francisco for our hybrid working model.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, document, and administer scalable sales compensation frameworks that align with MongoDB’s strategic goals
  • Own the end-to-end commission process, including calculations, validation, reporting, and dispute management
  • Partner with Sales and Finance on plan design, modeling scenarios, and forecasting compensation costs
  • Identify opportunities to simplify and automate processes, introducing scalable, tech-enabled solutions
  • Maintain strong governance over compensation plans - ensuring accuracy, compliance, and audit readiness
  • Act as a trusted partner to Sales and Finance leadership, providing insights into plan performance, making recommendations for improvements, and influencing strategic decision making around sales compensation. In addition, you are able to influence your cross functional stakeholders (sales operations, sales finance, etc) with impact

Coaching for impact and performance

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development to the global commissions team and manage your team to perform effectively and deliver high impact
  • Drive a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the accounting team and among key cross-functional stakeholders by establishing clear ownership, communication protocols, and alignment on deliverables and timelines
  • You have the ability to prioritize and manage multiple, high priority initiatives and can help your team prioritize work to deliver at velocity and maximum business impact
  • Enable a culture of career development and growth. Work across geographies with each member of the team to develop growth plans to ensure your employees develop professionally and deepen their core competencies

Operational Excellence:

  • Design, enhance, and maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting, ensuring compliance with SOX requirements
  • Support efforts that aim to standardize processes and increase efficiencies across the globally distributed team
  • Special projects as defined and needed

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience in sales compensation, incentive design, or sales operations within high-growth SaaS or enterprise environments
  • Strong analytical and modeling skills, with proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and familiarity with comp tools (e.g., CaptivateIQ, Spiff, Xactly)
  • Proven track record of building or scaling commission frameworks that balance motivation with financial discipline
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills - able to explain complex plan mechanics simply and clearly
  • A roll-up-your-sleeves mindset - equally energized by strategic plan design and the hands-on detail of ensuring accurate payouts
  • You have a focus on operational excellence - inclusive of execution precision and controls
  • Strong leadership capabilities including the ability to lead with empathy while also managing and inspiring your team to operate for high impact and performance.
  • Strong communication skills - both verbal and written - across varying levels of the organization, including senior leadership and executive staff. You are unafraid and are able to lean-into difficult conversations to yield a high impact
