Chef & Supplier Operations

Remote, USA · Travel Required

What we're looking for

Ordo is a K-12 school food program that connects kitchens, schools, and families to serve fresh, real food made with whole ingredients to kids nationwide. We're growing fast, signing larger contracts, and need someone who can own the supply side of what makes it all work.
This is not a traditional vendor management role. You sit between Ordo and the chefs and suppliers who make our food possible — developing those relationships, holding the quality bar, and growing each partner's capacity to serve more schools. The chefs are operators running real kitchens. The suppliers are businesses managing volume and logistics. Your job is to make both better at what they do, because when they win, Ordo wins.
You know food. You understand how it's sourced, how it's prepped, how it travels, and what it looks like when it's right versus when it isn't. You're a growth partner, not a compliance officer — that's a separate function. Your north star is kitchens expanding their school count and suppliers deepening their partnership with Ordo.

What you'll do

Chef Relationships
Own kitchen and chef partner relationships end to end — onboarding, development, and ongoing performance.
Be on-site regularly: walk kitchens, observe service, and catch quality issues before they become complaints.
Help chefs grow their program with Ordo — more schools, richer menus, stronger operations.
Hold food quality standards in the field. Audits route to our Food Ops team; your job is knowing when to flag.
Conduct site inspections against USDA/NSLP and CACFP guidelines. Our RDN owns the regulatory expertise — you're the eyes on the ground.
Supplier Relationships
Own ingredient supplier relationships — onboarding, contract performance, and vendor development.
Monitor supplier volume, reliability, and quality against Ordo's standards.
Identify and develop suppliers who can grow with us as we scale.
Escalate supply issues quickly and work cross-functionally to resolve them.

Who you are

Someone who knows food. You have real experience in food service, food production, or a related field — enough to walk a kitchen and know what you're looking at.
A natural relationship builder. You develop trust over time, not just in a single meeting. Partners want to grow with you because you're genuinely invested in their success.
Assertive but adaptable. A no-nonsense chef in New York requires a different approach than a cautious supplier in a new market. You read the room and adjust.
Detail-oriented with a strong memory. You remember what people told you, notice when things don't add up, and follow through.
Comfortable with ambiguity. You make good decisions without a complete playbook, and you build the playbook as you go.
Willing to travel. This role involves regular regional travel — driving between kitchens and supplier sites, occasional flights for launches or reviews.
Startup-minded. You've worked in or around high-growth companies, ideally where physical operations meet platform technology.
