Who we are. . .

Pearl Health is powering the future of healthcare. We help primary care providers and organizations to deliver quality healthcare to the patients who need it most, when they need it most — and get rewarded for keeping patients healthy.

Our technology, services, and financial tools enable better, more proactive care, decrease total cost of care across patient panels, and optimize performance in value-based care models for Traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage.

We are a team of physicians and public health experts (Stanford, Harvard, Mount Sinai), technologists (athenahealth, Amazon, Meta, Flatiron), healthcare innovators (Centivo, Aledade, Stellar, Arcadia), and experienced risk management professionals (CVS/Aetna, Humana, Oscar) who believe that primary care providers are the key to addressing our healthcare system’s biggest challenges.

Since its founding in 2020, Pearl has expanded to partner with thousands of primary care providers in practices and organizations across 44 states. Our investors include Andreessen Horowitz, Viking Global Investors, AlleyCorp, and SV Angel.

The role...

The Developer Platform team at Pearl Health focuses on developing and building tools, patterns and best practices to enable the success of Engineers and the Pearl Application for its customers. The team enables the use of infrastructure, observability, CI/CD, security and other workflows for engineers at Pearl. These processes will help software developers build and deliver software more efficiently and securely.

We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager who will lead this critical team while maintaining hands-on technical involvement. This role requires a unique combination of technical depth in platform engineering, people leadership, and strategic thinking. You will manage a team of platform engineers (including Staff Engineers, Senior Engineers, and contractors) while remaining actively involved in infrastructure code and architecture decisions, and drive cross-functional initiatives that impact engineering productivity across Pearl.

This position balances approximately 30% hands-on technical work, 50% team management and people development, and 20% cross-team strategic initiatives.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Lead and Develop Your Team (50%): Recruit, mentor, and retain exceptional platform engineering talent including Staff Engineers, Senior Engineers, and contractors. Foster a culture of operational excellence, site reliability, and DevOps best practices. Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning. Build a high-performing team that delivers reliable infrastructure and excellent developer experience.

  • Drive Technical Excellence (30%): Maintain hands-on technical involvement in infrastructure architecture and implementation. Utilize Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) to ensure reproducible and scalable environment setups. Design and implement infrastructure for applications hosted on AWS, supporting event-driven systems and serverless functions. Develop and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Github Actions, CircleCI and AWS CodePipeline. Own the observability pipeline to ensure applications can be well monitored. Scale infrastructure to meet increasing demand while managing cost effectively.

  • Innovate Across Teams (20%): Partner with Engineering teams, DSA, Security, and Product stakeholders to define platform roadmaps that enable faster, more secure software delivery. Drive adoption of platform tools and establish engineering standards across the organization. Collaborate effectively with engineering managers and technical leadership to align platform investments with business goals.

  • Champion Security and Compliance: Help inform security and compliance best practices by ensuring architecture meets the demands of a regulated work environment including HIPAA and HITRUST requirements.

  • Deliver Results: Own your team's commitments to infrastructure reliability, developer productivity metrics, and platform adoption goals. Navigate complex technical tradeoffs between security, compliance, scalability, and developer experience while delivering business value.

  • Build Internal Customer Success: Treat Pearl's engineering teams as customers, understanding their infrastructure and tooling needs. Establish SLAs, support processes, and feedback loops to continuously improve developer experience and maintain operational excellence.

Who you are...

  • Platform Engineering Leadership: 4+ years managing infrastructure, DevOps, or platform engineering teams. Proven track record building high-performing teams that enable engineering productivity at scale in dynamic, fast-paced environments.

  • Infrastructure and DevOps Expertise: 6+ years hands-on experience in software development focused on DevOps, Infrastructure and/or Platform Engineering. Strong experience automating the lifecycle management of code from development through production, including release management and managing infrastructure with Terraform or other IaC tooling. Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure, CI/CD systems (Github Actions, CircleCI, AWS CodePipeline), and observability tools.

  • Technical Leadership: Experience with instrumentation and observability best practices to enable teams to monitor and optimize application performance across multiple environments. Ability to define standards for quality, security, scalability, and availability with a focus on delivering business value.

  • Developer Experience Focus: Passion for delivering excellent developer experience for product focused teams. Track record of building internal platforms and tools that improve engineering productivity while maintaining operational excellence.

  • Collaborative Mindset: Experience working as an internal service provider, building relationships with engineering teams and understanding their infrastructure needs. Strong ability to document and help others maintain operational excellence.

  • Strategic Vision: Ability to align platform investments with business goals, anticipate scaling challenges, and roadmap infrastructure evolution to support Pearl's growth.

  • Healthcare/Regulated Industry Experience (Preferred): Experience operating infrastructure in HIPAA, SOC2, or similarly regulated environments. Understanding of compliance requirements in healthcare technology.

  • Communication Skills: Adept at explaining complex infrastructure concepts to diverse audiences and advocating for platform investments to technical leadership.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Your team consistently delivers reliable, secure infrastructure that enables Pearl's engineering organization to move faster and with confidence.

  • You've built a high-performing platform team culture focused on operational excellence, automation, and continuous improvement.

  • Engineering teams across Pearl have adopted platform tools and patterns, measurably improving deployment frequency, reliability, and security posture.
