About the role:

The Principal Product Manager for Data Platform is a senior individual contributor responsible for shaping the strategy, direction, and business impact of FYUL’s shared data capabilities.

You will own highly ambiguous, strategically important problem spaces spanning Data Platform, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, AI-enabled analytics, and the teams that produce and consume data across FYUL.

The role is defined by organizational leverage rather than team size or people management: creating a clear product direction, aligning senior stakeholders and multiple teams, and ensuring data investments deliver measurable business value.

You will treat the Data Platform as a product serving analysts, Product and Engineering teams, business functions, and company leadership.

Your mandate is to make FYUL’s data ecosystem a trusted foundation for decision-making, self-service analytics, operational products, and AI-enabled experiences.

You will determine where FYUL should invest in shared data capabilities, distinguish foundational platform needs from local requests, and translate fragmented needs into a coherent strategy and roadmap.

You will be accountable for platform adoption, trust, accessibility, organizational efficiency, and enabled business value. Engineering remains accountable for technical architecture, implementation, reliability, and system health.

Your daily tasks will include:
Define Data Platform strategy
  • Define and evolve a multi-year product vision and strategy aligned with FYUL’s company priorities and AI ambitions.

  • Understand the needs and workflows of data producers and consumers across FYUL.

  • Identify opportunities where shared data capabilities can unlock growth, efficiency, and better decision-making.

  • Balance near-term user value with foundational investments required for long-term scale.

Own discovery and product definition
  • Turn fragmented stakeholder requests into clear, structured problem spaces.

  • Identify the highest-risk assumptions and sequence discovery before significant investment.

  • Distinguish between needs requiring a local solution, reusable data product, platform capability, governance change, or operating-model change.

  • Define clear outcomes, success measures, scope boundaries, dependencies, risks, adoption expectations, and decision gates.

  • Lead discovery and definition for initiatives that span multiple teams or domains.

Own the platform portfolio and roadmap
  • Build an outcome-based portfolio covering areas such as:

    • Governed data products and metric definitions.

    • Semantic-layer capabilities.

    • Data discovery, metadata, lineage, and catalogue experiences.

    • Self-service analytics and trusted data access.

    • Data quality and observability.

    • Secure access for applications and AI agents.

    • AI accuracy evaluation and quality gates.

    • Tooling for building, deploying, and maintaining data products.

  • Clarify which capabilities belong in the shared platform and which should remain domain-owned.

  • Create coherent cross-team plans with clear ownership, sequencing, dependencies, and rollout decisions.

Drive prioritization and execution
  • Prioritize across platform foundations, governance, self-service, AI enablement, reliability, cost efficiency, and domain needs.

  • Make opportunity costs and investment trade-offs explicit.

  • Protect high-leverage foundational work from repeatedly losing priority to local short-term requests.

  • Partner with Data and Engineering leadership on resourcing, sequencing, and build-versus-buy decisions.

  • Unblock systemic constraints such as unclear ownership, governance deadlocks, dependencies, and resource conflicts.

  • Ensure post-launch measurement leads to clear decisions to iterate, scale, consolidate, migrate, or stop.

Own measurable outcomes
  • Define a North Star Metric and supporting KPI tree for the Data Platform.

  • Establish baselines and targets before major investments begin.

  • Measure both direct platform outcomes and the business value enabled by the platform.

  • Communicate progress, risks, assumptions, and outcomes clearly to senior stakeholders.

Lead governance and organizational alignment
  • Partner with business owners, Analytics, Data Engineering, Security, and other functions to create scalable governance mechanisms.

  • Ensure important metrics and data products have clear definitions, owners, documentation, quality standards, and change processes.

  • Treat governance as an enabler of trusted usage rather than an administrative burden.

  • Align senior stakeholders around goals, priorities, constraints, and trade-offs.

  • Translate complex data and technology topics into clear business decisions.

  • Challenge low-value, duplicated, or strategically misaligned requests.

Raise product maturity
  • Establish a strong product-management standard for platform and data-product work.

  • Coach Product Managers and initiative owners on discovery, prioritization, outcome definition, adoption, and post-launch evaluation.

  • Create reusable practices and decision frameworks without becoming a bottleneck.

  • Share insights, decisions, experiments, and production learnings across the organization.

Your qualifications:
  • A proven record of delivering substantial impact through complex platform, data, infrastructure, or enterprise products.

  • Experience owning strategy and outcomes across multiple teams or domains without formal authority.

  • The ability to turn highly ambiguous and technical problems into clear strategies and executable plans.

  • Strong understanding of data platforms, data models, warehouses, semantic layers, BI, governance, metadata, data quality, access control, and AI-enabled analytics.

  • Sufficient technical fluency to engage credibly in architecture and engineering trade-offs.

  • Strong commercial and analytical judgment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Experience aligning senior stakeholders around difficult priorities and trade-offs.

  • Experience coaching Product Managers or improving product practices at organizational scale.
