Stepful is backed by Y Combinator, Reach Capital, and AlleyCorp, with a recent $31.5M Series B led by Oak HC/FT. We were named the #1 EdTech company in the U.S. by TIME for 2025.

We’re improving access to quality healthcare for everyone, everywhere, and improving access to healthcare careers for those who need them most

Our values:

We credit much of our success to our exceptional team. We’re looking for mission-driven builders who thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments, and embody our four core values:

  • Care first: We do whatever it takes for our students to succeed.

  • Learn quickly: We test, learn with data, and iterate.

  • Build together: We win when we rely on each other.

  • Own it: We show up, take initiative, and show pride.

The opportunity:

We are looking for a contract Nurse Educator to teach one of our upcoming Patient Care Technician cohorts in Manhattan, NY. This role has two core responsibilities:

  • Facilitating hands-on learning in a simulation lab using simulation equipment and following Stepful's established curriculum

  • Supporting students through their clinical rotations at our hospital partner site

In the simulation lab, the Nurse Educator delivers structured skills training based on Stepful's curriculum, guiding students through the hands-on competencies required for the Patient Care Associate role. In clinical rotations, they integrate seamlessly into a live hospital environment, coordinating with nursing staff and unit leadership, navigating site-specific protocols, and ensuring every student is clinically ready to enter the workforce.

This is a 1099 contract role that requires in-person instruction at our hospital and training center partner location, so candidates must be local to the location site (Manhattan, NY) or willing to travel for the duration of the course.

What you’ll do:

  • Teach and facilitate skills labs for Stepful's Patient Care Associate cohort. Demonstrate proper patient care techniques, provide live step-by-step instruction, and supervise student practice, drawing on your nursing background to model clinical excellence.

  • Assess student competency and provide feedback and remediation as needed. Ensure that students achieve mastery of foundational patient care skills before advancing through clinical rotations.

  • Coordinate with hospital nursing staff, preceptors, and unit leadership to align student rotations with program goals and navigate site-specific protocols.

  • Document student progress and report on clinical outcomes.

  • Represent Stepful on-site with our hospital and training center partner, supporting a positive experience for students and clinical staff alike.

Schedule & Availability

This contract role has the following time commitments:

  • Onboarding (June 1 – July 18): 5 hours per week of onboarding to be scheduled in coordination with the Stepful team. This will include visiting our partner hospital site in Manhattan, familiarizing yourself with the program curriculum and skill lab requirements, and completing hospital onboarding, including systems access and ID verification.

  • Program delivery (July 18 – August 21): On-site in Manhattan, Saturday through Tuesday, 7:00 am – 2:00 pm EST, leading skill labs and conducting clinical rotations with students.

Candidates must be available for the full program window listed above.

What you’ll bring:

  • Active RN or LPN license in New York

  • Minimum of an associate’s degree in nursing

  • 3+ years of hands-on clinical nursing experience in an acute care or inpatient setting

  • 2 years of experience precepting or leading clinical education in a hospital or clinical setting (e.g., facilitating rotations, coordinating with unit staff, managing students in a live care environment)

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Current BLS certification

  • Available for the following:

    • June 1 – July 17: ~5 hours/week for onboarding, including in-person visits at our partner hospital site in Manhattan

    • July 18 – August 21: In-person simulation labs and clinical rotations Saturday through Tuesday, 7:00 am – 2:00 pm ET, plus ~5 hours/week of virtual work (e.g., grading, meetings)

Bonus points if:

  • You have experience working with students or colleagues from varied socioeconomic, racial, and cultural backgrounds

Interview Process:

  • Intro Call with Talent Acquisition team member

  • Virtual Interview (30 min)

  • Case Study Assignment

  • On-site Panel Interview
