YOUR ROLE

As the Director of Nursing, you will lead our frontline nursing team with the assistance of Nurse Team Leads. Our nurses serve our members as their advocates and navigators throughout the continuum of care. This role reports to our VP of Clinical Innovation, and in it, you will:

  • Provide administrative, operational, and managerial support to the direct nursing team via a team of three Nurse Leads
  • Manage clinical escalations
  • Enable the nursing team to best support our members through supportive training, coaching, cross-team collaboration, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Improve Thyme Care’s service offerings by assisting in the identification, design, implementation, monitoring, and iteration of clinical processes and their supporting content, often working cross-functionally to appropriately deliver this effectively
  • Contribute to audit preparedness by ensuring that case management activities, including care plan development, meet regulatory standards and contractual obligations and are supported by appropriate documentation
  • Drive the output, impact, and performance management of the nursing team

To hit the ground running, we expect this person to have a proven track record in leadership and mentorship with experience in healthcare leading high-performing, hourly clinical employees. Ideally, you will have experience working in a setting that leverages data and technology to support patient care. We also expect you to see problems as opportunities and are often the first to step up, fix, and overcome them.

After your first three months, you will:

  • Know our Nursing Team policies and procedures, escalation pathways, communications best practices, and documentation standards backward and forward, and actively share ideas on improving them.
  • Be on the path to becoming an expert on our Thyme Care systems, tools, technology, partners, and expectations.
  • Directly manage, coach, and serve as an escalation point to a team of Oncology Nurse Leads who oversee a team of nurses engaged in direct member care.
  • Contribute to the needs assessment and strategy for pursuing quality assurance accreditations, like the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), and/or successful completion of contractual audit
  • Have built strong, trusting relationships with your team and Care Delivery leadership, where listening and empathy are the foundation for every interaction.
  • Facilitate nurse-led team meetings and contribute to daily huddles and case conferences to drive member engagement, enable our Care Teams, and ultimately establish targeted support plans.
  • Refine nurse recruitment across existing and new clinical roles by understanding the skills, qualities, and experience that set a candidate up for success and participate in the oncology nurse interview loop.
  • Track nurse-driven goals, metrics, and OKRs and conduct root-cause analyses to identify gaps in knowledge, data, or procedures.
  • Provide clinical expertise in medical, behavioral health, and crisis management.
  • Put together quality and productivity metrics for all nursing team members in collaboration with Nurse Team Leads, then develop coaching and remediation plans for direct reports accordingly.
  • Provide support on building and maintaining resources, optimizing schedules, and contributing to updating staffing requirements, project initiatives, and policies and procedures.
  • Be available for urgent clinical escalations and clinical consult support.
  • Develop strategies to promote culturally competent care and close the health literacy gap.

WHAT LEADS TO SUCCESS

  • People-first. Thyme Care’s mission and members matter to you deeply.
  • Credentials. You must have a BSN and an unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in a compact state and be willing to obtain additional state licenses as needed. Additionally, you must be certified as an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN), Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse (AOCN), Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Specialist (AOCNS), or Certified Case Manager (CCM).
  • Experience. You have at least 10 years of nursing experience, with 5 years as a nurse leader in oncology and/or case management, have directly contributed to developing an NCQA accreditation or payor audit strategy, guided a team through a successful audit, and have a proven track record of managing scaling teams through a team of managers.
  • Versatile. You’re a strong collaborator who understands what it's like to lead a team in a growing and evolving environment. You’ll ensure your team meets and exceeds the standards set while collaborating with the rest of the organization.
  • Effective listener and communicator. You are winsome and articulate, but you always start with listening, and you hear what may not be voiced because you listen so intently to others. You build rapport and great working relationships with your team, leadership, and stakeholders.
  • Adaptable. You have a proven track record of success within scaling businesses, fast-paced environments, and startups. You understand that rapid changes to the business, strategy, organization, and priorities are par for the course… and part of the adventure.
  • Coach. You know your team’s strengths and what motivates them, and you strive to keep morale high while constantly challenging them to beat their best and never lose sight of the goal.
  • Grit. You’re never afraid to get your hands dirty, but you can also take a step back and connect the company’s strategy to your team’s performance and execution.
  • Tech-Savvy. We are a technology company focused on interacting with folks during the season when they need it most. Experience with video chatting, Google Suite, Slack, electronic health records, or comfort in learning new technology is important.
  • Proactive. Identify priorities, take action, and exhibit a bias for action. You adeptly recognize and prioritize your team's needs, problem-solve, and go the extra mile for others.
