The Developer Relations team at Viam plays an integral role in engaging the developer community and inspiring developers to use the Viam platform to build their smart machine ideas. As the Head of Developer Relations, you will have the opportunity to lead both the Developer Advocate strategy and team as it grows.

The team is based out of our NYC Headquarters. If remote, travel to New York would be required. You will report to the VP of Marketing.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the strategy: Develop, lead, and iterate our strategy to engage, educate, and grow the Viam developer community, fostering meaningful connections and building brand evangelists
  • Lead the team: Inspire, mentor, and grow a world-class developer relations team, including providing both technical leadership and career mentorship
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner closely with internal stakeholders across Marketing, Product, and Engineering to ensure strategic alignment across priorities and initiatives
  • Champion our users: Serve as a dedicated advocate in the company for the voice of our community, ensuring feedback and requirements are captured and incorporated into internal and product decision-making
  • Guide impactful projects: Mentor and guide the team to conceptualize, build, and document impactful demos and projects, in partnership with Principal Developer Advocate and aligned to team goals
  • Lead developer-first community activations: Plan, execute, and measure success of developer-focused events both in-person and online, including conferences, meetups, technical talks, hackathons, webinars, university partnerships, and more
  • Lead developer-first content: Plan, execute, and collaborate with stakeholders to create content that highlights Viam’s product capabilities for demos, blog posts, tutorials, videos, learning modules, and more
  • Lead community management: Establish and ensure timely communications with developers in real-time forums, such as Discord and social media comments
  • Measure impact and drive growth: Establish team structures that drive clarity, visibility, and collaboration as the team scales, including clear metrics for success

Who you are:

  • Experience leading, scaling, and managing Developer Relations, Developer Advocacy and/or relevant Community teams.
  • Proven track record of creating and producing engaging, informative and interesting technical content that resonates with developers.
  • Passionate about community engagement and building strong relationships with technical audiences.
  • Excellent written and oral communications with demonstrated ability in teaching others through multiple types of content (presentations, reference materials, sample code, blogs etc).
  • You care deeply about developers and understand their process and frustrations.
  • Technical experience working as a software developer or in a related field.

The starting salary for this role in the US is between $197,000 - $310,000/year. Your exact offer will vary based on a number of factors including experience level, skillset, market location, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. We recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced, or more senior, than this job description as posted. In these situations, the updated salary range will be communicated with you as a candidate.
