Summary of Role

The Pharmacy Manager / Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) leads day-to-day operations at clinic-owned in-house pharmacy in Winter Haven, Florida. You are responsible for building a strong pharmacy team, delivering exceptional patient care, maintaining regulatory compliance, and working closely with clinic partners to improve access to medications.

This is a hands-on leadership role combining pharmacy practice, team management, and operational problem-solving. You will partner with Alchemy’s central operations team to identify opportunities, resolve challenges, and ensure the pharmacy supports the clinic’s mission.

You and your team will provide culturally competent care to a diverse patient population, including people living with HIV, people at risk of contracting STIs, the LGBTQ+ community, communities of color, and people facing financial barriers to care.

Key Responsibilities

Pharmacy Operations & Team Leadership

  • Manage daily pharmacy operations, including staffing and scheduling to maintain reliable patient access.
  • Lead and support the pharmacy team, setting clear expectations for accuracy, productivity, customer service, and patient care.
  • Fill and dispense prescriptions in accordance with applicable pharmacy laws, regulations, and pharmacy standards.
  • Proactively identify operational problems and implement practical solutions.

Patient Care & Clinical Collaboration

  • Provide medication counseling, medication therapy management, and medication reconciliation.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other medical providers to address potential drug interactions, incompatibilities, and other medication-related concerns.
  • Serve as a medication information and patient education resource for patients and clinic staff.
  • Build rapport with patients and deliver respectful, culturally sensitive care that supports their treatment goals.

Medication Access & Affordability

  • Support insurance benefits investigations across medical and pharmacy benefits.
  • Assess financial assistance options to help minimize patients’ out-of-pocket costs.
  • Resolve third-party claim rejections and promptly resubmit claims for payment.
  • Coordinate with patients, case managers, providers, and insurers to address barriers to accessing medications.

Compliance & Pharmacy Standards

  • Ensure pharmacy operations comply with applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and protect patient information in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Partner with Alchemy’s central operations and compliance teams to address questions and maintain consistent pharmacy practices.

Performance & Continuous Improvement

  • Review pharmacy performance indicators and identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate with Alchemy’s central operations team to implement changes that improve pharmacy performance and patient care.
  • Pursue professional development in areas such as pharmacy management, specialty pharmacy, health equity, 340B, HIV, and hepatitis C.

Clinic & Community Partnerships

  • Build strong working relationships with clinic providers, administrators, case managers, and community stakeholders.
  • Align pharmacy services with the needs of the clinic and the communities it serves.
  • Maintain clear, professional communication with patients, partners, and colleagues.

A Day in the Life

  • Start the morning by reviewing staffing, prescription workload, and unresolved patient access issues with your team.
  • Counsel a patient on their medications and coordinate with their provider to address a potential interaction.
  • Work with a case manager to resolve an insurance rejection and identify financial assistance for a patient.
  • Meet with clinic staff to improve coordination between prescribing, dispensing, and patient follow-up.
  • Review pharmacy performance with Alchemy’s operations team and put an improvement into action.
  • End the day confirming that outstanding patient needs and operational issues have clear owners and next steps.

Minimum Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited university.
  • Active Florida pharmacist license in good standing.
  • Experience using BestRx pharmacy software.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Workspace.
  • Strong leadership, customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced pharmacy environment.
  • Ability to establish rapport with patients and provide culturally sensitive care.

Highly preferred:

  • At least one year of full-time Pharmacist in Charge experience in a retail or clinic pharmacy.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical or health records (EMR/EHR).
  • Experience providing pharmaceutical care, medication information, patient education, and monitoring support for people living with HIV.
  • Experience providing pharmaceutical care to members of the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish.

Salary and Benefits

This is a full-time, on-site role in Winter Haven, Florida. Compensation range: $61-65/hour. Benefits are outlined below.
